Pre-transcode Formats

The Pre-transcode Formats dialog lets you chose the formats that you wish to transcode your files to and to burn or embed subtitles into videos when transcoding.

Video Formats tab

Pre-transcode Formats dialog (Video tab)

When transcoding video files, you need to choose the following:

  • File format: The file format (or file container) holds the video and audio inside it. To choose a file format, click a checkbox next to the file format.
  • Video channel: For the selected file format, choose a video channel. To choose a video channel, click a checkbox next to the video channel.
  • Audio channel: For the selected file format, choose an audio channel. To choose an audio channel, click a checkbox next to the audio channel.

Tip: Bolded file formats, video channels and audio channels are recommended for your device.

Tip: Red colored formats may burn associated subtitles into the video and this requires full transcoding - which can be slower compared to transcoding with remuxing the audio and/or video channels.

Tip: Right-click on the File Formats list to set the aspect ratio for transcoded video. This is useful if your videos are appearing on your device stretched or not the right aspect ratio.

Force full transcode of all channels (no remuxing)

Click this checkbox to stop any remuxing when transcoding. By default, Mezzmo will remux supported channels when transcoding files. For example, if you have an AVI (MPEG-4, AC3) file and you wish to pre-transcode it to a MPEG-TS (H24, AC3) file, then Mezzmo will keep the AC3 audio channel intact and just remux it into the new transcoded file. This is very fast and saves CPU processing time.

In some circumstances where the resulting transcoded file does not play on your device, you may wish to turn this remuxing off and have Mezzmo fully transcode all channels in the video file. To turn off remuxing, click this checkbox.

Force embedding subtitles

Click this checkbox to force subtitles associated with the selected video file to be embedded into the transcoded video as subtitle channels. This is useful if your device lets you choose and display embedded subtitles.

Force burning subtitles

Click this checkbox to force a subtitle associated with the selected video file to be burnt into the transcoded video. This is useful if your subtitles are not displayed at all or not displayed correctly by your device. For example, you may have Korean external subtitle files but your TV is not capable of displaying Korean fonts/characters. So burning your subtitles will let you see these Korean characters in their correct form.

If you are pre-transcoding a single file, when you click this checkbox, you can choose the subtitle to burn into the video by clicking the select hyperlink next to the checkbox. This lets you override Mezzmo's selection - which is based on your preferred language setting in the Device Settings dialog for your device and the Options dialog (Subtitles page). A list of possible subtitles will be displayed. Select your preferred subtitle to burn into the video and click OK.
